Okay, most states, by federal directives, say that you CANNOT have guns 300 to 1000 feet of a school. So, if you are open caring (legal here) or concealed carry (with permission from the people who know best) and drive by a school.. up to 300 feet (common on main roads going by a school) are you now a "Federal Criminal?". How about a church? A state/federal building? You can't drive though a town/city without passing one or all of the above mentioned. So are we all criminals day by day.. only lucking out and not being arrested.. or is this just a means to keep up in line and control us as slaves? Consider this: You are speeding, going 37 in a 35 (bad, bad criminal). A LEO pulls you over and you just happen to be right in front of a school (any school) and you pull over. You have the piece of paper stating that they State has "given you permission to defend yourself with a concealed gun". But, you are now within the 1000ft barrier of a school. You have the "priviledge" of being able to carry but, sorry, you stopped in a "school zone". Can we all repeat after me, "YOU ARE FUBAR'ed dude/dudette".

Basically, the law usually states that you may not have a firearm within a specified distance of a school or school facility.

This means that you may not have one within the specified distance of the Board of Education or even a vacant lot owned by the school district.

Remember the ploy in some town or other where they wanted to make it a felony to have a firearm within a specified distance of a park -- and then wanted to designate the three-by-three holes in the sidewalk parkway as "micro-parks" because they had a tree growing from them?

They have more ways to damn you than even your imagination can conjure.

Gun Control: The proposition that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own panty hose, is more acceptable than allowing that same woman to defend herself with a firearm.

HI! Lets see hear...It seems you have read only the first line of the law. If you read the whole thing (usually not printed with the first part) you will find that there are exceptions to this law. Just like you really can yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater, if there is in fact a fire.

Here are some of the exceptions:

(i) on private property not part of school grounds;
(ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do
so by the State in which the school zone is located or a
political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or
political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains
such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or
political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified
under law to receive the license;
(iii) that is -
(I) not loaded; and
(II) in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is
on a motor vehicle;
(iv) by an individual for use in a program approved by a school
in the school zone;
(v) by an individual in accordance with a contract entered into
between a school in the school zone and the individual or an
employer of the individual;
(vi) by a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official
capacity; or
(vii) that is unloaded and is possessed by an individual while
traversing school premises for the purpose of gaining access to
public or private lands open to hunting, if the entry on school
premises is authorized by school authorities.

Now if you don't carry legal and the gun is loaded you are boned. It doesn't mean you cannot have a gun in your house across the street from a school or in your car driving by one.(providing you have CCW if its loaded or packed away properly, unloaded)

Both my father and stepfather live within 1000' of a school and both where spitting nails when they heard of this law until I found the whole thing and showed it to them. Both have CCW's and "gunshow" sized collections.

Mandatory Disclaimer: I may be full of **it and read it wrong, try asking a local LEO and/or a lawyer.
