    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

questions from a new guy

I've been a member for about a month and have spent lots of time brousing. A couple of questions have come to mind:
1. How come when I post the "edit" button always stays on in the lower right corner? What am I doing wrong?
2. How do you determin membership status? I can understand "junior" member ie. "newby". "Members" have been around a while longer. No problem there. But I really don't get who "senior" members are. Ones who have been members for years and have hundreds/thousands of posts OK, but I see a few who have been here only a short time and have only a few posts?? What's with that? I don't really care one way or the other. Just curious how your system works.

Thanks

The edit button stays on for a certain period of time. Can't remember how long. It gives you a "do over."

Membership status is based on the number of posts that you have. IIRC Senior Member comes at 100 posts, or some such.

Thanks for the quick come-back. Now I know. But,I know I've seen a couple of "seniors" with way less than 100 posts. Doesn't really matter though, I love TFL; thanks for providing it.

"But,I know I've seen a couple of "seniors" with way less than 100 posts." I doubt that you have. If you do spot an instance of that, please let us know because that would mean something is broken.

"How come when I post the "edit" button always stays on in the lower right corner? What am I doing wrong?" It's not totally clear what you mean by that. The Edit button simply allows you to edit your post if you wish to add or correct something in it. Why would you think you are doing something wrong?

That's not a nice thing to say about Mal...

Oh.

You weren't talking about his age....

OK.

Get your AARP welcome kit yet, Mal? :)

Agree with Mal. If you have seen that, something is broken and we need to know about it. Well, I really don't, but that's because I'm an idiot when it comes to the software that runs this place. Someone who knows what they're doing needs to know. But if you tell anyone on staff, they'll get the information to the right place. :)

I think I had a couple of instances of the edit not going through, because I didn't put anything in the "reason for editing" field. Now I just put "spelling" or "info" in & it works.

Hmm. And lately, I've seen a couple of "junior members" with hundreds of posts. I thought it might be a demotion, a particularly nasty punishment for bad behavior. :p

(No, not making a joke, I really have seen this -- here, for example.)

That's a special circumstance, Vanya.

"I thought it might be a demotion, a particularly nasty punishment for bad behavior."

Uhm... yeah, something like that.
