Questions for Cap and Ball shooters

I have quite a bit of experience shooting cartridge firearms, but, I just picked up a colt 1860 replica. First question is how do you take it a part. The barrel wedge is very tight and the only way to get it out is to use a wood punch and hammer. What is the correct way? I have heard that some people carried a spare loaded cylinder. How do you make the change quickly? Also does the screw holding it in need to be taken out first or is it just to hold it in place when it is out of the slot in the cylinder pin. Does the inside of the action need to be cleaned? It seems that disassembling it every shooting session would be a royal pain.
