questions/comments on the local range,and a glock

i made a trip to the local indoor range today, and rented a glock 34 to shoot,as i dont own any handguns.

it was my first time going to the range, and it was pleasureable.10 bucks for range time,7 bucks per gun, plus ammo.
it added up quickly, but i was happy with the experience. plus, this is the only range for miles around (sturm's in springdale,ar) so the owner can pretty much charge what he wants and not have to worry about competition.

the glock 34, was....nice.
i fired 150 rounds through it,and never had a malfunction of any kind. the gun appeared to be pretty new,as well. very easy to use and fire, comfortable, recoil wasnt bad either.

now a few questions.
1) what is the cut out on the front of the slide? its a sqaurish hole, with rounded corners (you 34 owners know what im talking about)

2) why nothing on the 34? i did a search and after not seeing anything for 5 pages i gave up and decided to ask.

3) any cure for glock fever? ive fired this and another one (19 maybe,i dont recall) and im in love. ugly, black pistols, without a flaw. dont get me wrong,i still like the 1911 type sidearms, but this glock......woooboy!

im going to buy my first handgun come october and im now seriously considering a used glock (which should be easy to find at the tulsa gun/knife show).

thanks for listening to this newbie blabber...ive been bitten.

I would be happy to answer your questions. I don't own a model 34, but do have a 35. Difference is mine is .40. It is by far my favorite Glock model, and favorite handgun I have owned.

1) What is the cut out on the front of the slide? Its a sqaurish hole, with rounded corners (you 34 owners know what im talking about)

A: It is there to help to lighten the front of the slide, Or if you decide you can purchase a barrel that is ported out that area. Glock does not make ported barrels for this model.

2) Why nothing on the 34? I did a search and after not seeing anything for 5 pages i gave up and decided to ask.

A: Where did you look? If you are looking at glock information, there is a search feature on TFL, or you can go to www.Glocktalk.com.

3) Any cure for glock fever? I've fired this and another one (19 maybe,i dont recall) and im in love. Ugly, black pistols, without a flaw. Dont get me wrong, i still like the 1911 type sidearms, but this glock......woooboy!

A: Welcome to my world...except I don't agree with you that they are ugly. Ugliness is in the eyes of the beholder. If you want a pretty gun, get yourself a chrome plated sissy pistol!

the cut out is to lighten the slide to make it closer to the weight of a G17's slide. Glock uses the same recoil spring in the G34 as they do in the G17 so the slide has to be the same weight for it to work properly.

pleanty of people have G34's around here and at glocktalk. you don't see as much talk about them because just about everyone who has one is pleased with it and it works perfectly so there's nothing to post about them. :)

i'd suggest trying to find a factory refurbished Glock instead of just a used one. they come with 2 full-cap mags and you know everything in them is in working order.

Welcome to the shooting world! If it's a Glock you want so be it. The big thing Maurice is that the gun you choose is right for you, as you can tell by my name I'm a 1911 fan but thats the gun that I started with and am most familar with. the big thing is that if you want to keep the right to choose that Glock or any other gun,you need to help out the NRA or an other gun rights group. There are lot of Brady types that want to take that right away from you. Again welcome aboard! 1911A1fan:)

The only cure for Glock fever is to buy some of them. ;) I think you may not hear much about the Glock 34 here because of the long slide. That's just a guess though. It seems like it would be extremely accurate, but I am not sure how many would buy one for carry. If you want to see the technical specs in the Glock 34, go to http://www.glock.com/g34.htm

After you get your Glock, you will have to buy a 1911 as well. Then I suppose a nice DA wheelgun will follow. Before you know it, you'll be looking at SA wheelguns and getting into cowboy action shooting. Do you own a levergun yet? If not, you will soon.

Hope I was some kind of help. ;)

My Glock Model 34 is... The Best Pistol Ever Built!

Period! :D

The only way to get over the "wants" is to move into the "haves". Buy one, you'll like it!

thanks guys.

preserve freedom,
your right about the cowboy action shooting. every time they cover that on american shooter im nailed to my seat. great stuff.
