Questions about Springfield Loaded model

I have gotten the 1911 bug.

I'm checking all my different options right now, for my upcoming graduation present to myself. On the SA loaded:

1. Does your two piece guide rod unscrew itself under recoil? Is a two piece worth it, or do you just replace it with a one piece.

2. How has your reliability been?

3. Accuracy?

4. How hard is it to break the sharp edges on the outside of the gun with a file? Is this something that you can do yourself with out refinishing if the gun is stainless?

Thanks

Correia, I'll answer your Q's in order.
#1 I have two SA Loaded pistols, neither came with a full length guide rod (neither are gov't models...rather, a Champion and a Ultra-Compact). A have never had a problem with the non-fuul legth rod in either of my guns. I have heard data that gives the reliability edge to the non-full length rod, however, a tiny bit of lock-tight or teflon tape willkeep the rod from unscrewing.
#2Reliability is great...no problems.
#3Good enough for self defense and IDPA.
#4 I did it with a very fine file...take your time and it'll look great.

1. Yes it loosens. A SMALL drop of BLUE loc-tite or some teflon tape does the trick. Many people replace the FLGR with the standard plug. Putting teflon tape on it doesn't bother me, so I left mine in.

2. 100% reliable without any type of burp at all.

3. More accurate than me. I haven't benched it and I am not the best shot around by far, but I can keep 5 shots all into one ragged hole out to about 25 feet.

4. Don't know. I don't carry mine, so the sharp edges aren't a problem.

Lastly, if there is a problem, the gun comes with a lifetime guarantee and SA's customer service is absolutely outstanding. I know first hand. When I got my SA Loaded, the trigger was not very good. Called SA and they said send it in. They paid the shipping both ways and did a trigger job on the gun that would knock your socks off. It is about 4 pounds with a very little bit of take-up and then a super clean and crisp break with no overtravel.

I was so impressed with the gun and the customer service, I also bought a SA Govt Model in 9mm.

Buy the SA Loaded and don't look back. You won't regret it.

1. replaced mine, as with all my 1911's with GI plug
2.reliability has been excellent
3.excellent
4.the sharp edges don't bother me, I carry it almost daily
A great gun and I highly recomend SA, Terry

1.I replaced my stock 2 piece rod with a Wilson 2 piece guide rod and keep the threads oil free , mine never shoot loose .
2.Never had a malfunction .
3.Extremely accurate .
4.I used a dremel tool to round my edges and then hardchromed the gun . On a stainless model I would use a stone or emory cloth on the sharp edges , if you need to refinish just have it beadblasted .

You shot mine at Rangemasters... What did you think about it?

You can shoot it again when the T-shirts are ready... No Charge. I think its the best value in a 1911 to be had. I have others - but I dont shoot them so much... heck I got a pair I have only fired ONCE after owning them for over a year. My 1911A1 "Loaded" model is my work horse. It goes everyplace where shooting is going to be done.
Even with BAD ammo - I have yet to have a failure to eject and cycle the next round... Never - Ever.
Yeah the 2 piece rod can get lose - but you can tighten it with your thumb after touching it with blue lock tight and it wont move until you ask it to. Thats not a problem... even if you take it out... the gun will still function. Depending on where you get it - you can have a brand new one for 500 to 600... Closer to 5oo in most cases.
Best value there is. Period.
Kimbers are often much more - and I dont think they are any better. Higher end Springfields and Kimbers and... etc are great guns - but for an entry level gun or for a gun to be used in soldier service - its all you'll need.

Great gun, mine is parkerized,I did not find
sharp edges other then on the wood grips
which I changed anyway, flgr used teflon tape.
Feeds anything, ball,185gr swc, etc. no jams,
accurate. I will buy another when money is
available.!!!

George, you know what I thought of your SA, thats why I'm thinking of buying one for myself!

Honestly, it felt good in my hand, it pointed well, and it was like I was punching holes in the paper right where I was pointing my finger. The only pistol that I own that I can shoot really well is my Buckmark, everything else I shoot has a DA/SA trigger, I have to work hard to hit with them. So mostly I want a 1911 for the trigger, and its a .45. Enough said.

Ok I will tell the ugly truth, any money that I make off of the TFL shirts will probably be going towards a SA loaded. Now you know my horrible secret
