Questions about S&W Model 17-6

I found one with just a faint cylinder line the rest of the bluing is 99%. It has a good bore. I was going to do a full function check as lined out by Jim's thread I found here on TFL. Assuming it checks out good is $300 a fair price? It looks to blue book at around $280 I also know prices are regional and. I don't see many of these around here.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Mike

Thanks

Thanks Mike. If it is not gone in the morning its mine. It will only be my second S&W. I have an M-36 Chiefs Special with a round but and pinned barrel. This will be a nice addition and I will be able to shoot more. Once again thanks for taking the time to reply.

Awfully good gun.
Do be sure to do a thorough check per Jim's thread.
Not a great price but if it likes you, will be a keeper to pass down.

I like 36s too. Carried em for over 40 years. Takes a lot of shootin to get good with em but well worth the trouble.

Thanks Sam

I was also thinking that the price was not great. I do however think the revolver is.

Nah, price isn't great on a weighted average, but in Northern Virginia one in that condition would probably be closer to $350.

Thanks Again

Well I would like to thank you guys that helped me out. I put the revolver on layaway this morning. It is going to be just over $300 otd. One more question the cylinder barrel, and frame cylinder gaps are about nonexistant. When I tried to check the alignment with a flashlight I could not get enough light through the space between the frame and the cylinder to check it out. Should this worry me?

Which barrel length did you get? The 6" or the 4" like mine? Just curious. And mine has the full lug and I'm the only person in the world who likes it. :p I guess it could be the 8 3/8" like my dad's, but I can't remember if they were still making them by the time they got to the 17-6.

Anyway, congratulations.

And the price is fine compared to what I see in this area.

John

It has the 6in barrel and no full lug. I had to do layaway because I am still recovering from my last purchase a CZ85. One of these days I will start a twelve step program.
