Questions about "New" Garand

Hi Group,

I just picked up a Garand at a local gun shop where I know the owner. I have a few questions about the history of the parts in this gun. I dont have any reference material yet, so I hope someone here can help me out. I would like to know approximately when the parts were made and by who. Also, I am assuming this is a mixed parts rifle. The following are numbers found throughout the rifle.

Receiver Ser. # 283XXX, Drawing # D28291-9 SA with REP 14 stamped above it.

Op Rod: D35382 6 SA, Barrel: S-A-12-48 with either S M or W S next to it.

Bolt: 6528287-SA with A14 below it

Trigger Assembly: D28290-14-SA

The Stock has a PB 642 stamped on the left side near the butt plate. There is also a PB on the Follower Slide Assembly and on the rear Hand Gaurd Band.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Congrates on the new Garand. The receiver was built in July of ‘41 (September ‘44 if you add another digit). It sounds like you got mostly Springfield Armory (SA) parts. The barrel is from a post war rebuild, 12/48 date, which is common. PB is Beretta’s code so your rifle is probably a CMP Danish re-import. Don’t have my Duff books with me to check the other stuff. -- Kernel
