Questions about my new FEG HP Clone

Just picked up my new FEG (P9PK) clone. Took it out to the range. Very accurate but since this is my first handgun I have a couple of "newbie" questions, so bare with me. Any help is very much appriciated.

1) The gun appears to be new or very lightly used. It kept jamming on me every 3 or 4 rounds. Wouldn't eject the casing all the way. I am using Winchester 115 gr. FMJ. The more I shot, the less it jammed. But after 100 or so rounds it would still jam at least once during every magazine. Is it just breaking in? Could it just not like that ammo? Bad magazine?

2) When I eject the mag, it drops right out. I have been reading on this forum about a mag safety. If this gun had one would it just drop out? Do you think it has been disconnected?

3) Is this gun a DA? I can work the trigger with the hammer down.

4) Are BHP parts interchangeable?

Thanks again for any help!

greetings,

1) This is NOT normal; my P9 was 100% reliable straight out of the box with 9mm PMC FMJ ammo, 3D "remanufactured" lead round nose, Georgia Arms LRN, Black Hills LRN, CCI Blazer, and anything else I ever fed through it. Your extractor may be dirty, misaligned or missing.

2) The mag drops right out because there is no "mag brake" in the pistol. A mag brake is usually a leaf spring running vertically in the rear of the grip, lightly pressing on the magazine to retain it after the release button is pressed. A mag safety prevents the gun from firing without a magazine in place by preventing the trigger from working.

3) If you can pull the trigger and fire a shot starting with the hammer down, your gun is a double action.

4) I think the slide stop may be. I don't think anything else is. Don't know for sure. Remember, the BHP is a single-action design.

Shoot safe, be happy,

That model is NOT an HP clone, its more like a smith and wesson. Your jamming problem is likely a magazine or the extracor is sticking. Those FEG pistols come packed in a foam case heavily oiled and wrapped in plastic. Dissasemble it and wipe it down thoroughly, wash it in diesel fuel if you can (this will remove cosmoline etc).
Lightly oil the internals and then add a bit of lithium grease to the slide and in the top of the barrelwhere is meets the slide or barrel bushing. A little grease goes a long way ;)

Hope the info helps,

customline, when I was new to shooting my FEG, I had a few jamming problems. I kindly soul at the range told me to try a slightly different hold. I was resting the bottom of my magazine on the palm of my hand, or on the bench. Weh I stopped resting the mag on things, the jams went away. I think there was just enough play in the fit of the mag to the pistol, that it was either interfering with the slide or the position of the round to be fed into the gun.

Anyway, if you are resting the bottom of your magazine on anything, try it again and avoid that. Might help.
