Questions about my Glock 17, 1st gen

Can anyone explain the differences in the original black parts vs. the later silver internal parts on the 1st Generation glock 17's.

Also did they come with an adjustable sight or standard fixed sight?
It's been a while, but I think I took off the adjustable and put on the fixed, but in a few videos they had both the fix and adjustable.

Also, in one video the glock came in the tupperware box with the mag holder, but in another video, the 1st gen came in the box with the cartridge holder and the mag holder. Does anyone know when that change happened in the glock tupperware cases? Would like to find the correct box for my gun.

Also has the original flattest black recoil spring.
Slide is worn down to the smooth dark grey tennifer finish.

Serial EB with all austrian proofs and ATT on the barrel indicating 1988, I believe? Not the pencil barrel, but black finish.

The parts difference just depends on whether it went through the "6 part UPGRADE (of course not recall )." If not---black.

Standard rear sight; not adjustable.

I had a Gen 1 17 I picked up new in 89. Serial number was, GT686US. It came in one of the Tupperware boxes, that had the mag holder.

It also came with the adjustable rear sight, which I promptly broke off with the gun in its holster, clipping a door jamb as I walked by. I still used the portion that was fitted to the dovetail as a traditional fixed sight, until I got it replaced.

I dont really remember what the internals looked like, so I cant help you there.

That 17 pretty much drove me away from Glock for quite a few years. It went back to Glock 3 times in the year or so I had it, for trigger issues (it would randomly and routinely not release when pulled). By the time they were done fiddling with it, they had replaced everything but the frame, and the problem was still not resolved. The third time I got it back, they replaced the slide, with no explanation to me, although in the "internal comments" box on the form, which is supposed to be unreadable to the customer, when held up to the light, I could see that the tech had wrote that the slide was cracked in the breech face. He also stated that the gun was "dry", which was not the way I sent it in. It was always properly lubed when cleaned.

For all my troubles, they sent me an extra mag the last time it came back.

I may have held a grudge against them for a few years, but I got over it. :) These days, Glocks are what I shoot the most, and pretty much all I carry. Havent had a lick of trouble with any of the ones I have now, and my one 17 passed 87,000 rounds a couple of weeks back.

Thanks, that read was very informative.
I'll have to try the frisbee test!(NOT)

this glock has function flawlessly for the many years since I've owned it.
Love the grip on this generation!

and my one 17 passed 87,000 rounds a couple of weeks back.

And what parts (and frequency) did you have to do over those many rounds? My Gen2 isn't even close (and most likely will never be) but I'd like to get an idea on round count.

TIA!

All Ive done, is change the RSA's a couple of times a year.

I did change out the extractor a couple of times. The first was when all the complaints about BTF were going around. I started having random malfunctions, BTF, stovepipes, extraction/ejection issues. It seemed to clear up with the second one, but then continued again later on, until I figured out it wasnt the extractor that was the problem, but the cases/case rims of my reloads wearing out from constant use. I figured out that certain lots in the rotation were worse than others, and factory fresh ammo, had no issues at all. I put the old extractor back in, and its still there and working fine. Im guessing the first was fine as well.

I clean the gun after each outing, and strip and flush the slide a couple of times a year. I also usually flush around the extractor when I clean it. Ive never stripped the frame, but flush it as well, when the mood arises.

G17 Gen 1

I believe all gen 1 guns had the black phosphate internals. Pre "upgrade". I have some if anyone wants to put their pebble grain back to original (free). The first gen 1 17s in the US were called pencil barrels. I also have an early 2nd style gen 1 Tupperware box without the cartridge post. It has the 1987 award sticker on the top. I'll sellit if someone has to have it. Text me for pics at (817)565-9447
