1) How did John Browning end up producing guns in Belgium?

2) Was the High Power ever produced in .45 ACP?

3) Did the Browning Company ever produce a .45 ACP?

1. Colt had first refyesal on any pistol designs patented by Browning. They were not interested in his design of the .32 blowback automatic oistol. Browning went to Europe and showed his design to FN who was currently producing the Milutary Mauser rifle under lisence from Mauser. FN was interested in getting into hamdgun production and commercial sales. They bought the rights. The design became the FN Model 1900 and was a tremendous success.

2. FN never produced a .45 caliber automatic pistol. The caliber is not popular in Europe.

3. Browning USA never produced .45 caliber automatics but imported the SIG-Sauer P220 and sold it in the US as the Drowning BDA.
