Questions about Beretta centurion & compact models.

long shot

I'm looking at the .40cal versions of both.

My questions: can either of these models be had in decocker only? If not, can they be converted to this mode?

Does anyone have a 96 compact or centurion, as I would like opinions on both.

Also, are these pistols reliable in .40 caliber, & can the smaller models stand up to the increased pressures this round generates?

I like the 96 G Elite, especially in 40cal, due to the heavier reinforced slide. However, the trigger reach is to long & the gun simply to big for my significant other. So, i'm looking at the centurion & compact models, as they fit her hand better & are comfortable in mine.

All opinions, experiences, or suggestions are appreciated!

TIA,
long shot!

The Centurian is a regular 92/96 with a slightly shorter slide and barrel; the compact is a Centurian with a slightly shorter grip. I don't think that either of these models are available in "G" format as decocker only. Short triggers are available from the factory.

The safety/decocker versions can be changed to decock only by a good gunsmith but it's probably frowned upon by Beretta and I don't think they'll do it. I think the gun is alright in .40, might want to use a tougher recoil spring since they use the same one as in the 9mm. This site has some good info: http://beretta.squawk.com/

the G model berettas are for LE agencies only (exept Elite models). there are very few G model berettas out there but there are a few. for a Centurion or Compact you would have to get either an FS or D version.

the 96G Elite has the same trigger reach as the Centurion and Compact. the only differences are the short length of the slide and barrel on the Centurion and slide, barrel, grip and magazines on the Compact.

Thanks for the info.

Kog, I checked out the site, very informative.

Russell, the Beretta that fit her hand best was a friends single stack compact, which seems to best fit small hands. However, I believe it's only available in 9mm.

Were looking at other models for her, so the 96 G Elite & 96 Brigabier are back in the picture.

Another question, do standard 96 mags fit & work in the 96 Elite models, as the magazine well is chamfered & the floorplate of the mag is fitted w/ a rubber pad.

Best,
long shot!
