Question: What are Goex Black Dawge cartridges loaded with?

I know it is not Goex black powder. I never used Black Dawge before but I wonder what they load it with. Regular smokeless? Or their Pinnacle substitute?

Thanks

Unless they've changed something, the only box of it I've had (44-40) was indeed loaded with black powder, at least it smelled, shot and fouled like real black powder. However, I did not taste the fouling to be certain.

I'd give Black Dawg Cartridge a call if concerned.

I talked to the plant boss down in Lousiana where it is made, and yes it is
loaded at the Goex plant with a mixture of Goex Black Powder. I mean the
different granalations. 45 Colt is loaded with 37 grs. by weight. Here I am
shooting it in my Ruger Blackhawk

WOW kwhi:D I bet that slug is packing at least 550+ foot-lbs of energy at the muzzle. 37 grains of mixed grade Goex? That is definitely in the light .41 Magnum class in power.

I pulled a few bullets from my 45 colt BlackDawg's and they were loaded with about 25 grs of REAL blackpowder and then topped of with COW (Cream Of Wheat) filler. The bullets looked to be lubed with SPG.

When shot side by side with cowboy action ammo...the BlackDawgs were WAY more powerful

They have two loadings for it. What you have is the light 25 gr load. Wait
until you shoot the 37 grain one. I bought about 300 rounds from Cabelas.
The plant manager told me they load it with the mixed granelations because
in their test it burns cleaner and fouls less than just one granelation.

I have a USFA rodeo 45 Colt, 4 3/4" barrel. If you load a full sized 250 gr. bullet and a full sized, not shortened, 45 Colt case full of enough quality blackpowder so that the bullets compresses it a little when seated, it bucks and roars pretty good. In cowboy shooting I normally shoot 44 special or 44 Russian full strength black powder loads(200 gr.) bullet and they don't recoil as much. There can be a huge difference in the velocity and recoil just based on which blackpowder you use, with everything else remaining the same. If you load that same 250 gr bullet with a case of cheap, weak 2f powder and then load a case with high quality 3f black powder (same volume), you will see quite a difference.Smokin Gator

Goex Pinnacle powder has been discontinued for a short number of years now. All that can be found for retail sale are leftover containers of old stock.
