Question to any FFLs out there

My young friend just got back from Iraq, and is now stationed in Fairbanks, AK.

He has a .357 Magnum Smith 66, all fully-legally sold from me to him, and we have proper paperwork to prove it.

My question is, can we just ship it in a locked container (I can provide that) from Ohio to Alaska, or must we go through a FFL-to-FFL transfer?

Any advice appreciated.

An FFL is going to need more information and clarification of what has been given.

I am translating this to: I have a .357 Smith 66 that he has paid me for but he hasn't taken delivery yet. Is this correct?

You are obviously in Ohio. What is his state of residence?

What exactly is this "proper paperwork" you mention?

Yes, he took delivery of it at his official residence also here in Ohio about a year ago.

He's now stationed in Alaska.

The paperwork was a small contract that I drew up and we both signed. It's his handgun now. The handgun is currently in the custody of his parents.
