Question re S&W Model 20

Saw one in a shop here in town and they had it marked 495 (?).
Is that a miss-marked item or are they worth that? It is a 38 spl.
Heck if I know-does anyone out there have info?

Well, at the risk of being harpooned (again) I would offer the opinion that if in absolutely pristine condition it would be of some interest to a collector and price would be whatever someone was willing to pay to have it in their collection. If it is worn and reduced to "shooter" grade, then nearly $500 sounds very high to me. I bought one of these (pre-M20 made in 1955-56) at a gun show in Denver two years ago from an FFL for $199. It is in about 70% condition and shoots just fine. I like old guns with character (honest wear) and I would rather have one at 70% for under $200 than a perfect specimen at $500. But that's me. What do you want the gun for and how badly do you want it?

Please clue us in

regarding the general 'look' of this model, and it's features. It's a new one on me(I don't have the SCOSW, yet!).:D

Think a Big Model 10 for the M&P version.

Thing a Big Model 14 for the adjustable sight version.

The .38/44 HDs are built on the N-frame.

Model 20 is the 38 Special N-Frame with fixed sights. Adjustable sights would be a Model 23. If it was 98% or better, then $420 isn't that far out of line; N-frames just cost more than K-frames.
