    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Question re: moving threads

First off, great job moderating the forums to all involved.

I do have a suggestion to make the site a little more user friendly with an extra step, however. When a particluar thread is moved to another forum and the little "lock" appears on it, would it be too much trouble to put a link at the bottom of the thread so we can connect to the new thread without wading through the other posts on the particular forum.

I have no idea about how boards like this work and how difficult this process is, but I have seen it done from time to time on moved posts and it is a great help.

Thanks again for the time spent in keeping this forum one of the best on the net...

Erik - I think all moderators here would agree that your idea is a good one. In fact we have tried it from time to time.

However [isn't there always one of those?], it takes more than an "extra step". The procedure would require: 1) moving the thread (this usually takes at least a minute to complete); 2) the thread is automatically locked when moved; 3) go find the moved thread in the new forum; 4) copy the new page URL; 5) navigate back to the old thread; 6) unlock it; 7) edit the closing post to add the link; 8) relock the thread.

So you can see why we have the tenet to "Think twice, post once." That saying could be construed to say, "Think twice about the content and where the thread should be, and post it once and only once." (There have been a lot of duplicate threads lately.)

What Mal said.

Unfortunately, the database is so large now that a thread move can take many minutes. Generally, Staff begins the move and then goes on to other things in a new Browser Window. However, with the name of the thread and the new location, you should be able to locate it pretty easily.

Fortunately, the new software release will automatically create a redirect in the original Forum. It's in Beta (test) right now and stable release should be available soon. However, Beta 4 is due out next week. If it looks good, we'll be making the change.
