Question re Heritage revolver

Saw one for sale in local store - said it's .22lr/.22WMR.

WTH? So am I to assume you just get BB-like accuracy or thereabouts when shooting the smaller-bore .22lr through it? Seems kinda dumb.....marketing for ya. Hmm, maybe I could make a revolver in 22mag and say it shoots .17 HMR as well, and it would in fact shoot the bullet out the muzzle (and just omit the little fact that it's end over end after that). Is this a new combo, or old as the hills, as are most things in the gun world?

Revolvers sold with both .22 LR and .22 Mag cylinders have indeed been around for years (and years, and years). Generally accuracy is fair, but not tack drivers. The general idea is to pratice with inexpensive Long Rifle stuff, and use the Mag fodder for small game.

A good friend of mine has an older Ruger Single Six with both cylinders. It shoots VERY well.
With a difference of only .002", .001" on each side of the bullet, the .22lr will engage the rifling just fine. The rear of the smaller round is also designed to expand and fill the bore, so I'm sure it could expand another .002" if it needed to.

I have the Heritage 22lr/22mag combo. Very accurate when you get the feel of it. Takes practice. You wont believe the power of the 22mag from this revolver. :)

ps
GunTest mag. chose the Heritage over the Ruger in their testing. :D

I've had one for years, put thousands of rounds of .22 LR and .22 short through mine. It's got about a six and a half inch barrel so accuracy is just fine. It is the older kind with crappy fixed sights - well, there's only a groove for a rear sight but you get the idea- which is the major limitation on its accuracy. Now they make versions with adjustable sights and LASER sights.
Mine would never make a competition gun.Mostly it's a fun plinker. I've even started some new shooters out on it. The single action makes them take their time and think about what they're doing before I switch them to a Ruger Mk II. It's nice to start new folks on .22 shorts and work them up the scale, too.
