My father has started useing a gun safe for about a year. Yesterday day when we were getting something out, we found a small colony of mold growing on 4 of the rifle stocks. What is the best way to cure this? Has this ever happened to anyone else? Thanks for any help you guys can give

Hey, first post, welcome.

Does your father have a goldenrod in there (a rod that you plug in to keep the humidity down)? If not it would be a good idea. There is usually a knock out on the back of the safe that you can run the power cord through. Also could use some silica (I think that is what it is) pellets to absorb moisture. Local gun shop should have either.

JMCBANG, Run! Don't walk, to your nearest pet store and buy some good cat litter. It is a great desicant and will absorb any moisture in the safe. I take a pair of my wife's panty hose, cut off the two bottoms at just above the ankle, place one inside the other, then put a cup of cat litter inside and tie a knot. Make two of those and hang one high and another low in among you firearms. Or, you can put some in a clean can with plastic lid, and punch holes in the lid. I've had a safe since 1977, and it's always worked for me.

Best of luck. J.B.

Use some vinegar to remove the mold, don;t get it on the metal parts of the gun because it will remove the bluing. Soak a cotton cloth with the white vinegar and lay it on teh mold on the stock, vinegar being acidic will kill the mold.
