Question on skeet - referees?

I always liked busting pigeons from a hand-thrower, then one of those pull-a-string hop out of the groud, spin and hit you in the ankle throwers, but have never shot at a club. I understand the difference between trap, skeet and sporting clays - though it took a while :-). While checking out the website of the venerable Nashville Gun Club, they have a drawing of their skeet field http://www.nashvillegunclub.com/Skeet/Default.htm
.

I don't think I understand the referee locations. If you look at the diagram, there is a ref. position at the convergence of the pigeon's paths... in the middle of the field of fire. Does someone really sit out there? Is (s)he in a bunker of some sort? Somehow this causes my mind to belch and spin.

Thanks

Ah, I see the problem. The referee point you're talking about is only used when the shooters are on station 8, which is directly between the high and low houses, on the base chord.

Hope this helps.

Later,
Chris
