I have an fairly old Bushnell 4-12X 40 AO scope I've been hunting with for years. This year i went to sight in some new handloads on my 30.06 and I noticed that the image of my target goes out of focus on it's own after a shot. It will re-focus OK and the scope seems accurate with my handloads, but should i gtry to get it repaired or replaced before elk season. I'm REAL low on funds just now. Any help would be appreciated. wolfzAz
I don't know about repairing your scope, but for what it's worth, SWFA (www.swfa.com) has, in their Sample List section, a Bushnell 4-12 Adjustable Opjective scope with bullet drop compensator for $49.95. It's a factory demo.
It sounds as though maybe an internal lens can move fore-and-aft just a smidgen yet somehow returns to where it belongs.
Unless you have a retina that's misbehaving.
I think I'd look for a good used scope in a gunstore, where if it didn't work right when you sight in, you can take it back and try again. A lot of the "el cheapo" scopes will commonly last at least one season, and your billfold can recover.
IMO, a 4X12 is more than is needed for an '06 on elk. IMO, that's 300 yards or less. IMO, a K4 would work. I've killed deer out to 350 yards in fading light, with my 3X9 accidentally left on 3.
