What is the procedure for registering a short barrel rifle/shotgun combination? Can it be transferred if is not registered?

Are you talking about one of those "over under" type deals with a rifle barrel up top, and a shotgun barrel on the bottom. I think Savage make's em.

Any legal SBR/SBS are registered through the NFA. If you've got one that isn't registered, you're in possession of an illegal item.

It would help if you were more specific about what you were talking about.

What is the procedure for registering a short barrel rifle/shotgun combination?

Here is the procedure.

A "Short Barreled Rifle", (SBR), is basically any rifle that has a barrel length shorter than 16".

If you want to "make" an SBR, you can do so legally. You will have to fill out and send in the following paperwork to BATFE and have it approved.

They must be legal in the state you reside in.

2 Form 1's. These must be signed by the Chief CLEO. Usually the County Sheriff.
2 photographs of yourself attached to the From 1's.
2 fingerprint cards.
1 Citizenship form.
$200.00 tax stamp.

After all this is completed, you must then wait for approval from BATFE to assemble it.

For a "Transfer" of an SBR from one person to another, there is only one change to the above procedure.

You will need a Form "4" for transfer.

If a person has one of these in their posession and it is not registered, it is a FELONY with a penalty of $250,000.00 fine and 10 years in prison.

Can it be transferred if is not registered?

This too is a felony. Illegal transfer.
