Question on my new Holosight

I just received one of the first generation Holosights made by Bushnell. How sharp is the reticle supposed to be? On mine, the line is rather fuzzy, especially when I turn the brightness control up. When I turn it all the way up, it becomes VERY fuzzy and I see a lot of halo effect and even a ghost image. The only other red-dot I have used is a Leupold/Gilmore, and the dot was fairly distinct. The standard reticle on the Holosight, on the other hand, is a circle with a dot in the middle, so I don't know what kind of resolution I should expect for the circle itself.
 
I have a first generation as well and it does the same thing. I usually turn mine down a far bit before use. I believe the higher levels provide a better reticle in bright sunlight.
