Question on M1 "Tanker"

Hi folks,
I was in a gun shop the other day and found a short garand type rifle marked "Tanker" on the side of the receiver. It also had the usual Springfield markings and was chambered in .308. It was in good shape and the price was $895.
Whats the story on this rifle? It handled much like a BM-59 I once owned. Is $895 to much to pay for such a rifle? How hard are they to find? Can I expect Garand like accuracy?

Thanks,
Keith

It is a butchered M1. Barrel cut off or a replacement shorter barrel and operating system altered (hopefully) to work with the shorter barrel. Accuracy may or may not be there depending on how well done. Personally I think the price is way way too high but some like em for the cool factor.

If you like this sort of rifle you are better off buying a new Springfield Armory "Scout". It's an 18 inch version of the M-1A and accepts all the M-1A's magazines. I been eyeing one for a while but I keep buying Glocks instead. They go for about $ 1300.00 on sale in Southern CA.
