I recently picked up a nice French MAS 49 in 7.5x54. I purchased a set of RCBS dies and 200 rounds of PRVI 7.5x54 as well, and plan to reload the brass once the 200 rounds are fired.
I like to use a Lee FCD on bullets that I load for semi automatics, and apply a light crimp to the case mouth to guard against setback.
So, in my research so far in finding a Lee FCD that works for 7.5x54 MAS, I found several places stating the 7.62x54R Lee FCD is the one to use, which makes sense. It is a .30 caliber bullet and a 54mm long case.
I don't currently have a Lee FCD for 7.62x54R, but I do have one for 7.5x55 Swiss. Do you think that this one would work? It is a .30 caliber bullet with a 55mm long case. I think I could just adjust the crimp die 1mm lower and it would be fine for 7.5x54 MAS.
I know it's a long shot, but I figured I'd ask and see if anybody has done this, or if anybody could provide input. I know the Lee FCD aren't expensive, but if I can use what I already have I'd like to. Thanks.
