Question on Colt SAA.

Hey guys,

I just found out that I'll be working a lot fewer hours at work, and I just put money on a gun I really want (H&K P7M8). So I guess I'll probably sell something to finance the other. It sucks cause I really like all my babies.

Well I'm thinking of selling my Colt S.A.A., cause it'll give me more bang for the buck so to speak. Also I don't have the constitution to kep it NIB, I'll just end up shooting it! I'm sure there's a collector out there that is just dying to have a NIB COLT.

The gun inquestion is a 2nd. year production 2nd generation Colt S.A.A. that is NEW IN BOX, It is in the Black box with manual, warranty card and brush.
This gat is chambereed in .38 Special is Nickel plated with the 4-5/8" barrel and ruber grips.

My question is, what is this thing worth? I've had it for a few years and have no real world idea of its worth. I do know that colt only made 28 SAAs in .38 Spl. for both the 1st. and 2nd. gen., so they are considered kinda rare.

Any help on finding its value would be greatly apreciated!:)

Thanks a bunch guys.

They certainly made more than 28 guns in .38 Special. This caliber is less common (and less popular). As an unfired piece in the box you are looking for a collector to buy it and not a shooter, anyway.

I don't watch SAAs all that much but I have noticed 2Gs with asking prices from $1,500 to $5,000 depending on variation and condition. Don't know if they are selling at the upper end as these are asking prices.

I think the nickel is less desired, but the 4.75" is the most popular. Not being an expert, I would guess that maybe around $3,000 for a truly unfired gun. You could put it up on AuctionArms or GunBroker at this starting price and if that's too high it won't sell and if that's too low the bidders will offer more.

I would guess that .38 Special is the 3rd-most popular SAA chambering (after .45 Colt and .44 WCF), and not anything rare. Sometimes, popular chamberings are more valuable than rare ones. I know I'd rather have a minty .45 than a minty .41. To the right collector, I'm sure $3000 is possible, and maybe more. I have seen some really doggy 1st Gen. guns, with awful refinishes, tagged at over $2000.

New and unturned in the box could bring up to 4K if marketed properly
