Question on cleaning

I have always shot jacketed bullets through my handguns. A friend gave me some non jacketed leads to try. They really shot good but it seems like a lot of lead in the barrel. I tried cleaning like I do jackets or rifles......shooters choice....brass brush....repeat...repeat...seems like alot of lead left. Are these shells that much dirtier or is there a better trick I am missing. Until cleaning I was ready to switch!!! Thanks, Doug

Sounds like the cast bullets were loaded too hot. This causes gas-cutting as the propellent gases melt the rear and sides of the bullet during firing depositing the melted lead in the barrel. The solution is to load them down a bit or use cast bullets with metal gas checks on the bases.
