question on briley tubes

I'm thinking of buying a Beretta o/u and, I'd like to shoot both 12 and 20ga.

Would my best route be to buy a nice beretta in 12ga and buy something like a set of briley tubes in 20ga?

I'm somewhat new to this and I've seen the briley tubes in some ads with o/u shotguns and, I don't know much about them.

Do they hold up well? Could I fire 1000 rds/day through them on an Argentina trip to dove hunt?

The Briley tubes will hold up to many thousands of rounds. They are built for skeet shooters who shoot a lot.

The good tubes have to be fitted to each set of barrels. Briley sells "Companion" tubes that will fit any double (as long as the gun matches the length specified). The companions are heavier however.

Tubes will add weight to the gun, and all of it in the barrels. This will alter the balance of the gun. Adding 20 ga tubes to a 12 ga barrel will be heavier than just shooting lighter loads in the 12.



BTW I have a set of 30" Briley "Companions" in 28 GA with 5 choke tubes I no longer need. They are in a local gun shop but I would be willing to retrieve them if anyone is interested.
 
Geoff, are the companions you have for use in a backbored barrel? My barrels are .742", and I would love to have a set of 28 ga tubes for it. I also shoot 30" long barrels, cleaning from using 28" tubes is somewhere I would not like to go again. You can email me if you don't want to post the price on the tubes. Thanks.
 
Rich Cole or another good Beretta mechanic can fit 20 gauge bbls on a 12 gauge O/U frame. Not cheap.

Unless your heart's set on having a 20, I suggest shooting 1 oz loads in a 12 gauge for days of massive Argentine pest control.Better patterns, less felt recoil.

I think I will buy the 12ga and possibly get some tubes fitted for 20ga in the future.

I have a buddy who I plan to bust clays with that shoots only 20ga and, I don't want him talking a bunch of crap because I'm busting more than him with a 12ga.

I just want to get the most versatile o/u possible so, I guess that will have to be in 12ga.
 
I have always wondered about compaines and their high end O/U's.

I have a 682 Gold E and I would buy a 20 ga. barrel, i wonder if they just don't want to make them or can't?
 
Most "high end" O/U manufacturers will build you a set of 20 ga barrels for your gun.

Several manufacturers have "Skeet Sets" that consist of four sets of barrels in each skeet gauge that use the same forend iron. I have seen Beretta and Browning sets.

Because of the cost most diehard Skeeters use tube sets.
