Question on a new Sig P-220..

I bought one last month and have been getting used to it. When I ordered it from a local dealer I was told that they had eight round mags now and that I would be getting it with two of them. Well in my excitement I did not check the box when I picked it up and assumed it had the eight rounders. Just the other day I noticed that the box said it had two 7 rounders. Well this whole time I have been putting 8 in the mag without problems. I was wondering how to tell the 8's from the 7's. Is there any markings? Sorry if I ramble on about his it just gets to me. As a experiment I loaded 8 in and tried to chamber a round and it would not grab the round. I noticed the mag was not fully inserted so a good whack and it would go in. When I put 7 or no rounds in it will go in with no whack. Please let me know if I am doing any harm or what the markings of a 8 round mag are.

Thanks in advance,

As far as I know, the eight rounders are not marked as such, as the only difference between them and the seven rounders is the follower. I've never heard of Sig shipping eight rounders either; they would like you to buy the accessory follower.

markd,

In 1994, SIGARMS modified the P220s .45 ACP magazine to enlarge the magazine capacity from seven to eight rounds. There are no external changes to the magazine, only a redesigned magazine follower. The redesigned follower may be added to existing magazines without any additional changes. However, because of large number of old style magazine followers SIGARMS is still shipping their magazines with the seven round follower.
