Question on 1911 Barrels

Does any one know if a 5" Government barrel will fit into a Commander slide?

I have the opportunity to get a 5" barrel in 45 and 400 CorBon real cheap. I was just wondering if they would fit my Combat Commander, although I know they would extend beyond the bushing....

Within reason, 1911 barrels are interchangeable, BUT... may require some fitting.

How the muzzle will fit your barrel bushing depends on the barrel.
Some barrels are slightly larger right on the end to provide a tight fit with the bushing, and a relieved area behind it to allow free movement under recoil.

So, depending on the barrel it will probably be usable but may well require fitting to operate properly, or allow good accuracy.
