Question: need to know width of Ruger Vaquero topstrap...

Don't have mine with me to measure but I did see one the other day with a set of J frame S&W sights fitted to the gun. Looked right at home on the Vaquero. regards, birdman

I've got something even wilder in mind :).

Picture THIS as a rear sight on a Vaquero:

And then one of these up front:

That rear is 1/2" wide. Fronts are available in different heights.

.44, Bisley, measures .715", constant front to rear.

.357, non-Bisley, goes from .722" at the back to .718" at the front.

Both are stainless, and both topstraps are very rounded on top. That's the maximum dimension.

A bit over .7", eh? Cool. That rear sight is .5" wide...should fit fine. I'm aware the topstrap is very rounded...I'm thinking I could drill'n'tap a couple of small mount screw holes, and then use epoxy to fill in the gap. JB-Weld can be mixed with black dye to produce a jet-black glue.

The front sights come in different curvatures for different width barrels, you just need to supply the outside diameter of your barrel. And of course in different heights.

So, this looks like it really would work, and would net a set of really cool fully adjustable sights that wouldn't interfere with the hammer the way the Blackhawk "rear overhang" sight does.
