question mossberg 500

sorry if this has already been covered, but what does the "A" mean in mossberg 500A? i was looking at some accessories for the mossberg 500, and occasionally found it specified that certain items dont fit mossberg 500A. thanks

I believe the 500A is 12 gauge, 500B is 16 gauge and the 500C is 20 gauge.
