question from a friend - chokes/slugs

Pretty much NONE! A regular rifled slug will go thru even a "full choke". The ribs referred to as rifling are to allow a snug fit in an open bore but will swage down in a choke. "Improved Modified" is considered the ideal choke in most cases by various gun makers. The only real risk is "back bored"/"over bored" barrels. Most will be roll stamped not to shoot slugs in it.

Slim and none.
Think about all the lawyers out there: If selecting the wrong choke while shooting slugs could cause a disaster, slugs would have been taken off shop shelves long ago. The slug's soft ribs adjust (compress) to match whatever choke constriction you have. A tight choke won't help your accuracy, but it won't cause a disaster, either.

You could try

Taking a slug out of a shell & drop it thru the barrel, if it fits out the choke, it will fire :D

Like Brent said, look for any stamping on the barrel/manual warning against using slugs, otherwise, fire away :D

If it were dangerouse to fire any type of ammo in a gun, it will be stamped on it or in the book.
