Question for you Glockaholics

Now that I own a Glock 19 and am interested in possibly doing some mods. Im gonna be using +P for personal defense and have some questions.

First, have been reading about trigger weight mods such as the 3.5 lb pull instead of the 5.5 lb stock weight. I dont have any problem with the stock weight but am interested in trying the lighter trigger. Is the conversion easy to do or is it a gunsmith job?

Second, Im thinking of ordering some Wollf recoil springs in different weights since Im gonna use +P ammo. Do I really need to go up from the stock 17lb spring when using +P ammo?

Third, I shoot left handed and so far dont have any problems with the slide release and mag release but do the extended versions help conciderably? Do they get in the way any with the holster?

Finally, I have the G19 riding in a Comp-Tac Undercover Kydex and its comfortable to wear. Any other suggestions for holsters that you have used with the G19?

Looking to learn some more from this site. I have learned alot from here so far and enjoy everyones imputs.

the trigger is easily worked on provided you have the correct information http://www.glockmeister.com/trigger.html

the stock spring should be fine, after all it is the same weight for the .40

it is a slide stop not a slide release, train to go into battery by racking the slide, extended dohickies just snag on the way out of a holster and may in fact render your current holster useless

www.sidearmor.net though my new comp-tac shirt tucker seems very nice and a good price

Don't put any stuff on your weapon (I would exclude night sights). Extended this, Tactical/Practical Ninja of Death that--just more stuff to break. I tried a a super, duper enhanced recoil spring. It went Tango Uniform one day into a pistol class. Over the berm it went (er, I mean placed carefully in the trash).

Buy about a dozen stock recoil spring and change them like you change your oil, about every 3K rounds. Put the night sights on and go to skul.

Here ya go...

1. Very simple if you relace the entire group. It's been awhile but it went something like: push out 2(?) pins, remove original group, insert new group, replace pins. Get the Glock 3.5lb group (Glockmeister).

2. No. Most (95%) of the ammo you'll burn will be standard pressure stuff.

3. If you don't have a need, don't change. Spend the money on ammo. The extended mag release bites my hand and I "ride" the extended slide release (slide won't lock back on and empty mag). Bad juju, so stock stuff is on my Glock.

4. Holsters are very personal. They need to fit your body. Look at Galco and Safariland products, they have excellent quality.

I have a factory extended slide stop on my G29. Mostly to make it easier to manually lock the slide open, as I slingshot it to return it to battery after reloading. It doesn't interfere with any of my holsters, or my style of shooting (YMM, however, V).

I have a bad habit of letting my thumb ride the slide stop, so an extended one would make things worse for me. All I did to my G19 was add steel sights and a titanium recoil guide rod.

BTW where do you order replacement parts like recoil springs? I don't see much information from Glock on where/how to order.

I use lonewolf and glockmeister for a lot of parts. Some stuff that is factory glock you can call Glock and talk to them and get another one in the mail. They often send springs and updated followers for magazines for free. And I think glockmeister has them if you want to pay for them.

Cruise over to glocktalk and play with the advertisers there. Lots of adds these days.

As far as mods, try working with the stock stuff. If you can not make due, then change it. But try and use the factory stuff for a while and see how you do.

I have read of people buying a new gun and not shooting it yet, but I got this trigger and this or that release. If you base the mods off a similar gun, like you already had a 23 and just got the 19, I can see that. But for most they just want more stuff.

I find I can work all my glocks as they came from the factory.

I like everything stock

In my humble opinion, a 3.5lb. trigger belongs on a target gun only. Also, I have had no problems with the stock recoil spring on any of my Glocks. As it was stated earlier, the vast majority of your shooting will be with standard pressure FMJ's, I would assume.

1. I have a 3.5lbs connector in my G30 and the standard 5.5lbs connector in my G23.(Waiting on funds to get one for my G23) You remove one pin, pull the assembly out, change out the connector, slide the whole assembly back in, replace pin and poof, 3.5lbs trigger. I would recommend it. Its recommended not to use on a carry gun but unless your an idiot, you should have good enough gun control to not fidgit with the trigger until you're ready to fire.

2. Why use +p ammo? You will be just fine with some 230gr Federal HydroShoks. My local Glock Armorer has thousands of rounds through his IDPA G19 and his recoil spring is still the original. Save your money and stick with the stock spring. Do like someone said and buy some extra stock ones for back up just in case.

3. I have an extended slide catch on my G30 but not on my G23. I feel no need for it anymore so I am not going to get one for my G23. They're nice but you can do just as well without one. Once you get used to the Glocks slide stop you wont have any problems at all.

4. I carry my Glocks in a Fobus paddly holster or an Uncle Mikes nylon holster. I have a Galco Royal Gaurd for my G30 but I hate it. I also have a Galco Fletch for my 30, I love it but its not good for CCW unless you can wear a heavy coat. Nylon does just as good as job as the expensive holsters IMO.

Night sights are a waste of money unless you have failing eyesight. I can find better things to spend my $70 on other then glow in the dark sights. Besides, if you need your "Trit" sights to get a good sight picture in failing light, you probably shouldn't be shooting at it in the first place. But thats just my opinion.

Basically, leave the gun alone with the exception of the 3.5lbs connector. :D

Cheers
