Question for those who carry in condition 3

Not trying to start a war at all--in fact, if I were to carry, I'd probably carry semi-autos in this condition as well. It's good enough for lots of armies.

Where on the body are good places to carry like this? Clearly, you want to integrate a slide rack with unholstering. (I'm curious particularly about CCW.)

BTW, the reason I think that C3 makes sense is that you can carry any number of different semi-autos in C3 and your presentation would be the same: draw with slide rack to single-action shot. Doesn't matter about decockers, safeties, SA/DA, etc.

While the presentation would be the same, that doesn't make C3 carry the right choice. One thing that you fail to take into account is the possibility of having a jam chambering the first round! You never even have the chance of getting a shot off! At least with a round chambered, you'll have one in the pipe, even if you get a stoppage chambering the next round. If I have a gun that I don't feel comfortable carrying on in the pipe, I don't carry it.

Sh!t happens fast! Too fast to depend on a racking a round IMO. Besides you might be on the ground getting the crap (or life) beat out of when you have a chance get to piece. You might be fighting with one of hands. Etc.

I know, I know...which is why I never referred to C3 as "safer." It's safer in terms of avoiding an AD but not as safe in terms of getting a shot off.

Like I said, I'm not trying to argue C1/C3 again. Just wondering what the best locations are for CCW in C3.

Now, I do not carry C3. But it seems to me that crossdraw or mexican belt carry would present the weapon in a reasonably efficient spot for a racking of the slide...

I don't understand why anyone would want to carry an unloaded gun, and to me a gun without a round in the chamber is unloaded. I guess if somebody snatched your gun, it would give you a few seconds to start running before they had a round chambered. My answer to your question would be, no place on the body is good for carry in this manner.

You could carry a revolver this way if you had one of the older model Colts like the cowboys used. Always kept the chamber under the hammer empty so they didnt accidently blow something away if the hammer got hit.

Personally, I wouldnt carry any personal defense weapon in this condition. Like the saying goes, most attacks last from 3 to what 5 seconds. No need wasting time racking the slide. I keep my .40 with one in the pipe, hammer back and safety on. Only takes a tenth of a sec to flip off the safety as Im drawing my weapon. Its all about practice.

i agree with art, carry in condition 3 at home chamber when you pick it up to check out that noise downstairs

but if you must...do what the israeli security protection teams do

they carry behind the strong side hip OWB (in a forbus?)
1. draw with strong hand
2. bring it to the mid-line of their chest with the top of the gun facing their weak side
3. grasp silde with weak hand
4. thrust gun forward with strong hand
5. release slide when it hits it's stop

the pre-condition to using this from CCW is the availablity of 2 free hands

Off the top of my head:

"Good enough for armies" often times isn't.

The added step of racking the slide prior to obtaining the support grip is waaaay too slow. Regardless of how fast you can accomplish this task, you are still far behind times involving just obtaining the support hand grip.

That's assumiong you plan on using two hands. If you plan on using only one, what's the point?

If you can only use one, for whatever reason, you're doomed to likely rue you choice up untill your adversay dispatches you.

It's good enough for lots of armies.
A pistol is not even on the list of first use weapons among armies. In fact, Hitler poisoned himself before he used his PPK!

Even flipping a safety off takes too much time, IMO. With the ridiculous semis that have decocker safeties, it will take what seems like days to get a shot on target, and that will be after your very first shot, which will go who-knows-where. I'll stick with DAO pistols with one chambered, thank you. If the trigger gets pulled, I WANT it to go bang....

I understand your apprehension about cond 1 and 2. I dont carry cond 3. I believe if I need my gun..its there and ready.
I carry hammer down. I do ok with a d/a first shot. If I had to
rack my slide on the way up, I would carry on my strong side.
IWB or Belt....straight draw..no straps to slow an already longer
draw. shoot well

What alot people do not realyze is that they need both hands to bring their weapon to ready. What if one of your hands is injured or disabled by GSW?

If you really fill unsafe with semiautos, get the DA auto with manual safety or carry a revolver.
