Question for Tamarra. Beretta Tomcats?

Hard Ball

New member
A friend of mine is interested in getting a pistol she can carry concealed any where. She is interested in the .32ACP Beretta Tomcat. She has asked my opinnion, but I have never shot a Tomcat.
I notice that from the display on your website you have a Tomcat. How do you like it and do you feel that it is a pistol thst a woman could carry concealed on her person no matter how she is dressed?

If any other woman members of TFL have any experience with the Tomcat and would care to comment, I would appreciaye your opinnions.

I'm a satisfied Tomcat owner, it's been a good little gun. Mine took about 200-250 rounds to break-in and be fully reliable. Now it feeds any kind of ball and Win. Silvertips, Fed H/S, and Gold Dots just fine, but still doesn't like Fiocchi JHPs.

It's an easy gun to shoot (low recoil) and is surprisingly accurate for a little gun with small sights, I painted the front sight white to make it more visable. It is concealable, though it is kind of heavy for it's size, but it works fine in a pocket holster (a holster of some sort is a real good idea to keep the lint and crap out of it), and it likes to be kept clean and very lightly lubed. Mine will start to act up at the range after 100+ rounds and the mag gets cruddy (dirty little blow-back), but if you keep it clean, should be no problem. I've got about a thousand rounds thru so far, and there's little sign of wear, and am to the point where I carry it a fair amount and run a box of ball thru it every six months or so as a function test, and it always goes 'bang'.

One last caveat, which probably doesn't apply to your friend, but I have big hands, and if I index the gun too high, i.e. grasp it too high on the gip, the slide will put two nasty parallel cuts in the meaty part of the web betwen thumb and forefinger. so be wary of slide bites.

I like shooting .32's. I have a NAA Guardian and a Kel-Tec P-32. I've always admired the Tomcats in the glass case when I go to the gun shop. However, I have read some negative posts. Although now I'm beginning to think more seriously about adding a Tomcat to my little collection because the Jetfire I bought two weeks ago is such a nice little pocket pistol. I really like the "tip-up" barrel feature and I don't feel weighed down on the right side when I have my Glock 27 on my hip and the little Jetfire in my pocket.
Who else carries two pistols? Admit it, I know some of you do! :)

Never had any problem with mine.No FTF from the start and very accurate for what it is.

Granted, I bought mine used, but it's been dead-bang reliable from round one. I use Silvertips, as they've been around the longest and seem to work as well as anything else, but given the miniscule differences amongst the different brands of .32 ammo you can go with whatever brand you're loyal to. The only times I've experienced a FTF are, as already mentioned, if I've put a bunch of rounds through it at the range and it's gotten absolutely filthy. It's probably not as ultimately concealable as the Jetfire it replaced, but it's still small enough to conceal in practically any attire, and although it's no howitzer, it's far more reassuring than a .25 ACP. With a good pocket/purse holster and a thigh (garter) holster (mine's homemade from a no-name bellyband purchased at a gun show), it's hard to imagine an outfit that wouldn't allow concealment of this pistol somewhere.

Thanks Tamara

I think I can evaluate a pistol fairly well, but carry guns for women is more complicated. I have taught a lot of women to shoot and most of them shoot well. but when it gets to guns that they can carry all the time no matter how they are dressed, they tend to smile and say "You may know a lot about guns Hard Ball, but its obvious you don't wear women's clothes and you know they re right.
Any way. reassured by your advice I will advuse my friend to get the Tomcat.

Really like my Tomcat. I carry it whenever my USP Compact is too difficult to carry.

I carry in a PagerPal, as recommended, cross draw and the darn thing is invisable. I have several LEO friends as well as a son who is also a LEO and none picked up on the Tomcat in the PagerPal until I actually showed them. Scared a couple of them that are pretty adept at spoting concealed weapons due to extensive counter narcotics work. All said they'll look at pagers differently now. Now three carry Tomcats deep cover themselves now after shooting mine.
BTW got a deal on a second Tomcat just tonight, this one in stainless for less than I paid for my matte one. MMM you're history and I got a new gun!

Waaa! Whooooo!
