Question for Randy Garrett

Can I use your 44Mag +p load in a Dan Wesson 44V? It has a cylinder as long as the Ruger. Second question, can I get your bullets to make my own handloads with?

Mark9,

Although possessing a long and stout cylinder, we do not recommend our 330-grainer for use in the Dan Wesson guns. Although the Dan Wesson is a very stout revolver, we feel that the Ruger double-actions are better suited to this load. Again, our 330-grain +P 44 Magnum ammo is for use only in Ruger Redhawks and Super Redhawks. Also, we do not sell our SUPER-HARD-CAST bullets as separates.

Best regards, Randy Garrett www.garrettcartridges.com

Randy,

Forgive me for being off topic here, but I just want to say that I'm glad you stuck around in this forum. I remember the heat you took during a visit you made a couple of months back. Your ammunition is quite superb, and, so far as I'm concerned you can talk about it all you want here or anywhere. Keep up the good work.

Best

Dear Sir,

Though quite off-topic in a handgun forum, how about your 45-70s in a NEF Handi-Rifle?

(I'm somewhat of a masochist ;) when it comes to recoil.)

Thanks,

Garrett ammo is so good that even when I'm asked about my loads I always mention Garrett as an option.

"All my ammo is factory ammo"

SAAMI specs, I believe, are on the conservative side, no doubt due to the liars, er, lawyers.

Randy's been doing this for longer than some of us have been alive and still has all his eyes and hands. I trust him and his loads.

What I'm trying to say is that when faced with a contradiction between The Book and Real Life, I go with practice instead of theory.

(ObDisclaimer: This post is not intended to encourage anyone to load their own ammo over max specs.)

roknroll:

Try again. Our 310-grain (1325-fps) 44 Magnum ammo is completely SAAMI compliant for pressure and is safe in all 44 Magnum revolvers. Only our 330-grain +P load exceeds SAAMI pressure specs by 10% and it is strictly recommended only for the super strong Ruger Redhawk and Super Redhawk. As to our 45-70 +P ammo, it generates the lowest chamber pressure by far of all ammo in this power class, and is fully recommended by the guys at Marlin. For more on chamber pressure considerations for the 45-70, check out our commentary page on our website http://www.garrettcartridges.com/050400.htm

... Furthermore, SAAMI is primarily an ammunition standards organization of ANSI. (Although they are getting into the political arena.) I don't believe they "endorse" or not any of the org members or non-members ammunition.

Who is this Saami chick, anyway? And why is everyone so interested in her "specs"? She doesn't sound that enticing; so far's I can tell, she's 44-45-70! And her weight seems to fluctuate from 320-400 lbs! Besides, she seems to be with this Dan W. guy (whom Randy says is pretty stout, himself).

Perhaps I should re-read the thread. :)

Might I humbly recommend a search through the Handgunnign archives on the topic of safety of Randy's loads. It has been debated a bit in the past.

BTW, are you sure SAAMI even rated 45-70? I thought they only did the newer loads like 9x19...
