Question for people that use tuckable holsters

I just bought my first tuckable holster. It's a Desantis. The clip that hooks under the belt is visible and I was wondering if anyone has ever asked you what that clip was? It looks like most if not all tuckables have this hook that goes under the lower edge of the belt.

People carry Ipods, cell phones, insulin pumps, and any number of things on their beltline. Very few folks pay enough attention to even notice a little belt clip.
I've left an empty holster on my belt when entering prohibited areas just to see if it's noticed and in most cases, it wasn't.

Yep, what Mobuck said.

I'm a long time LEO, currently working in a school-house as a resource officer. I spend a lot of time looking at people's belt-lines as part of my normal scanning. I'm amazed at the crap that people carry on their waist-line. Cell phones, pagers (yeah, some folks still carry pagers), leather, plastic, metallic, it's all there. I may not know what their faces look like, but I can tell you what color belt they're wearing.

One tuckable holster that doesn't do this is the Comp-Tac line, which are available with a velcro clip that comes up above the waistband, then down behind the belt, and is designed to be worn with a belt sewn with a velcro insert.

I do use a smart carry at work sometimes if the jeans I'm wearing are loose enough. I looked at Com-Tac with the velcro clips. It looks very interesting and might have to give that a try.

Well to be honest I can hardly imagine that anyone would ever notice the clip unless its wearer does something overt to draw attention to it such as:
- black clip on a brown belt
- sitting in a position such as leaning backwards that draws attention to that area of his body

I routinely wear a Sig Saur P229 full size handgun in a Galco outside the waistband holster at my 3 o'clock. It makes a big bulge under whatever jacket I am wearing.

I also sometimes wear a Walther PPS inside a Merlin fanny pack at 9 o'clock. Even when wearing this rig under a suit coat (and you KNOW that is visible), including into business meetings I've never had anyone ever ask me about either of these.

I've engaged in extended discussions on unrelated topics with a group people known to be anti-gun and with groups of LEOs and no one has ever noticed what I was wearing or asked. In my experience people just aren't that observant.

I seriously doubt anyone is going to notice a tiny piece of plastic less than 1/4" square on your belt.

I carry with a crossbreed with a full size 1911 and in their clips it has a cross on each metal clip. i have carried now for 6 years and as of yet havent been asked. now you have to be looking with a idea of what your looking at to see it. my father inlaw knows what the clips look like and still at times doesnt even know and will ask me if i have my carry with me.

"I've left an empty holster on my belt when entering prohibited areas just to see if it's noticed and in most cases, it wasn't."

Ive done this in ILLINOIS and no one has noticed. Gas station, hospital and school property. One time even a LEO drove past me and got a good look at me.

No, i didnt do this to test the waters or make some point. It was on my way to and from the shooting range for my security certification, which happens to be done at a school, which happens to have a campus on hospital property.

Point is, if no one notices an OWB holster, in Illinois, on school and hospital property, I wouldnt worry about someone noticing a belt clip in a sane state.

I build holsters, . . . and my IWB tuckable Cactus is my most often sold item.

It uses leather straps with snaps on the top, . . . and if the strap matches the belt in color, . . . no one notices.

BTW, . . . when mine is tucked, . . . there is a full size or commander size 1911 in there, . . . and no one ever notices.

So in answer to your question, . . . I would never worry about it. As previously mentioned, . . . only an LEO would most likely notice, . . . or a holster maker looking for ideas :D

May God bless,
Dwight

I'm wearing my Desantis tuckable at work right now at work with a Kahr K9. No printing at all. Just a very small piece of the belt clip showing. So far so good.

Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe

I normally carry a Walther PPK/s in a Bianchi 100 leather holster. I wear dress clothes every day that I must tuck my shirt in. You can see the metal clip at my 4 o'clock position but after I tuck my shirt in around the gun and do a light pull on it, you can't tell, let alone barely see the clip. When I am not wearing work clothes, I am carrying a Beretta 92 FS in a crossbreed supertuck deluxe and it comes with extra "holding" clips that you can use that will virtually disappear on the belt. I always have my shirt untucked so I haven't installed them, but they basically look like "J's" and hold the holster down when you draw.

Also you can cover up the Crossbreed clip with a cellphone or beeper holder. The other clip is usually too far back for people to notice. One time a coworker "made" my Crossbreed but then again he's an FFL and a firearms enthusiast.

I use the J-clips. The majority of the clips is hidden on the inside of your belt and then curves out underneath the belt and hooks on the bottom edge of the belt. It's not noticeable at all.

I find these days people walk around oblivious to what is going on around them. I would bet I could print all day long without a comment as people would just assume it is an electronic device. I have a good tuckable and am never concerned about people noticing even though I have a double stack pistol.
