question for p95 owners

Hello. i've been reading these forums for a while, but this is the first time I've actually needed some help. i got my permit in the mail today and i'll be carrying a p95 ruger (would've bought a sig or glock, but frankly, i'm still in college and i'm poor.......that being said, I think the p95 is a fine, reliable piece)
To get to the question, i would like to know from p95 owners what type of defensive ammo they've found works best with the pistol.

Also, while i'm at it, does anyone out there carry a smith and wesson 686 with a four inch barrel? this is my other carry option, and i think it's a fine revolver. however, i'm not sure if i can conceal it.

Thanks in advance.

I carried Federal 9pb hollowpoints in mine, but it ate every hollowpoint I tried.
I can't remember ever having a problem at all, and I tried about every ammo I could buy cheap. Great gun, I traded for a P-11 due to the size difference.

Hey there I have a Ruger P95 also. They are great guns every bit the Glocks or Sigs equal in the reliability department. I have fires over 1000 rounds in mine so far not one jam. I use Golden Saber in mine 124 grain. It's all in what you prefer and what is most acurate in your gun. They will feed any hollow point on the market I have tried them all. Get a good holster and belt for CCW. Hope this help,45automan

I agree with tatters & 45automan. My P95 eats any hp personal defense load without a hitch. Try a lot of different kinds and see which one you feel you can shoot the most accurately and comfortably. Enjoy! You made a good choice.

I read everything I could find in magazines and on the Web before choosing CCI Speer Gold Dot 124 grain for my P95. The sources weren't unanimous, but nobody gave this round a bad review, and some praised it highly. Out of the P95's 4 inch barrel you should get about 1130 fps, though I have not clocked it.

IMHO the differences between two premium defensive rounds of the same weight are not going to be large. The one exception is Federal's Personal Defense line, which seems to have lower bullet velocities. Dunno why.

Hi there. Another P95 owner who loads his with Remington Golden Sabers, although I am of the opinion that this hardy little Ruger will eat anything. :) Have you given any thought to what holster you will hide this gem in???? I carry mine in a Bianchi 7/7L pancake.

Denfoote,

I have the same holster, works great under a denim vest. Only problem is it creaks when my love handles push it around. I guess it'll break in eventually -- or maybe I'll lose weight (yah shure).

I have both guns you mention, but I don't carry either one. I have carried the Ruger in a Galco Fletch holster. Keeps it in pretty tight, but it's still a bit difficult to conceal for me.

The Ruger is loaded with Remington Golden Sabers.

David,
Right now my 7/7L is the holster from HELL!!!
You already have the story on why. ;)
I am trying the "leave it in the holster for another week" trick. The denim vest, or light wind breaker thing is only good for 2 or 3 months here in Arizona, if that. The P95 goes into the safe for the spring, and summer.

Denfoote,

The noise is a pain. I'm wearing it around the house to see if it breaks in. Anyone know of an anti-creaking spray?

As for cover, around here no one is surprised to see a denim vest (Daytona Beach is Biker Mecca) or a fishing vest. They are not really that hot over a T shirt or golf shirt. I also have some heavy cotton duck "safari" type shirts; the material has a bit more body to prevent printing.
