Question for newbie.

Hi,

BP is something I have wanted to try for a while, and I found this little guy in a pawn shop for 25$, good shape, just had a little rust to clean off the barrel. http://imgur.com/JUpZv

Does anyone have any experience with a pistol like this? It is .44 cal and I am planning on using .451 with 18-20 grains pyrodex fffg.

I guess my biggest though is how difficult it was to ram the ball in the barrel (I tried just to see). How tough is it supposed to be? I don't want it blowing up in my hand!

Thanks for any insight.

Muff pistol !!

These were quite common a few years back. They are not old and you can find them on gun broker. You will find that the barrel will unthread from the frame. You load seems to be in line but don't load too high. I just got one, at an auction and will fire mine as well. .... ;)

Wolf,
This is a Classic Arms Spanish Boot Pistol and as mentioned, were in distribution not to long ago. They also Put out a Duck-Foot, Snake-Eyes and Pepper box. Some came as kits and other assembled. I know there out there and perhaps someone else has some documentaion that could be of assistance. I'm going to have to spec out a RB as I find the .451, to be suspect. I thought that CVA put these out but I could be wrong. I would have not reservations in shooting them, just need to get my shot-string defined. ..... ;)

They are .44 cal

I don't know what that means in terms of the ball and patch. No reason to doubt Hawg.

I like the looks of these pistols but I always avoided them because I felt they were way overpriced. When I was buyin revolver kits for under sixty bucks these were one hundred in kit form.

Same thing with the contemporary price for the Phila Derringer.

Hawg

Yes.

I agree. I didn't mean that I missed a deal. What I meant was that I missed seeing that price at that time.

I remember when Classic Arms started selling these and the Duckfoot and that supposed Pepperbox.

I never had any interest even though at that time I was buying single shot pistols as well as revolvers. They just did not interest me.
