In a nutshell a good friend of mines exboyfriend/father of her child is a complete psycho. Her father who is like a
second dad to me finally made the decision to protect his family against this friggin nutcase with a firearm. Im up
to date with laws but any advice from a local I can give can only be good. Im not sure enough of Maryland law on
self defense and justified shootings. Im also going to tell him to ask his lawyer, but I still want regular joe opinions.
BTW he was career military and a regular shooter, just never kept guns at home so he isnt a newbie or anything
like that.

Asking a lawyer is a real good idea (much as I dislike the legal profession in general). As I understand it, the perpetrator must be armed and in your home and actually threatening someone, among other factors, before a shooting may be considered justified. The father cannot 'loan' a handgun to his daughter. One of my brothers is an attorney in MD. I will be seeing him over the weekend and see what other thoughts he can add.

A female freind who is active in MD 2A rights was in a similar situation. When she filed for a restraining order, the clerk laughed and said - you know your ex will do the same thing.

All that being said, it's probably better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6, even in an anti-gun state like MD.

Hope nothing bad happens to anyone.
