Question for Kahr P40 owners

I was at the range yesterday and I had a problem. I used S&B .40s&w fmj. A round would be chambered just fine and I would get a click but no bang. This happened 3 times. After inspection of the 3 shells I noticed the primers were marked (struck), but maybe not as deeply marked as other primers. Do you think this is a problem with the ammo or the firing pin mechanism? Like I said this happened 3 times out of 100 rnds fired. Has anyone else had this problem?... thanks in advance.... dinojas

Try a different brand of ammo, I once got 2 misfire's (bad primers) in a box of S&B 9mm ball ammo. If you get light strikes with a different brand of ammo call kahr.

( Was the slide fully locked up when you got the misfires?)

I have a Kahr P40 -

but I can't be of much help. I primarily shoot my own reloads, but occasionally shoot Blazers or Cor-Bons. I've never experienced any failures whatsoever.

FWIW, as I browse numerous gun forums, I do often read about unsatisfactory results (failures) due to Sellier & Bellot ammunition.

I'd recommend that you try different brands of ammunition before you assume a mechanical (gun) malfunction. IMHO.

pocketman, thanks for the info on the S&B... You know it could have been that (slide not locked up)because I was doing some rapid fire and maybe didn't notice right away. (It was a clear the malfunction and keep blazing situation.) But indeed upon inspection of the primers of the failed rounds they were struck.
S&B... never had a prob with them before, but as you said it happened to you... Thanks for the reply

Aha, still more trouble with polymer Kahrs!

I had a Kahr P-9 that was riddled with problems, one of which was a "click" when I pulled the trigger. In my case, the striker wasn't dropping reliably with a single pull of the trigger.

Your problem with a light strike sounds a bit different. I've heard that at least one batch of S&B 9mm ammo was shipped with very hard primers, intended to prevent slamfires in some SMGs . . . this ammo proved unreliable in many pistols. Supposedly this was solved, and FWIW I never heard of this problem in .40.

Try another brand of ammo (Name brand domestic) and see what happens. If you still have a problem, contact Kahr.

dinojas.. Enjoy that P-40 once you get the ammo problem figured out.

I had a recent production P-40 for a few day's and liked it very much, It was a great shooter, I only put 250rds through it but funtion was flawless. (mag-tec 180g ball, speer 165g gdhp and fed. 155g h/s)

I live in massachusettes and we've got some really crappy gun laws and the kahr's are not on the approved list, My dealer had a new P-40 in his case, he was mis-informed by his distributor and told they were now legal, I bought it immediatly on a friday, shot it extensivly saturday, pocket carried it sunday, monday and tuesday then got a frantic call from my him saying he could not sell me that gun blah,blah,blah.. so I returned it regretfully to him.

I have owned 2 K-40s and 2-MK-9's (MK-9 is my daily pocket piece) and if the polimer ones ever become considdered safe enough for us massachusettes pesents I will get anouther.
