Question for California LEO's

I am a legal holder of CCW in Wyoming. I am planning a trip to California in mid May. Northern California area of the Sierra Nevada Mtn's. I know that it is very illegal to have a concealed weapon in California as I lived there for almost 30 years. My question to you LEO's in hypothetical. You pull over a guy in a pickup with Wyoming plates (A nice truck, not a POS). First thing the driver does is declare to you that he has a loaded pistol in the truck and that he is a licensed CCW holder in his home state. He has his wife and 2 kids in the vehicle with him and it is obvious he is not a criminal. The gun is legally registered to the driver. He states that is is merely for self defense and the protection of his family while he is away from home. He has no criminal record or any moving violations whatsoever, his record is spotless. What do you do as an officer? I know that each officer has different reactions to every situation. I am trying to weigh out my options of carrying a loaded pistol in my truck when I enter California. Thanks in advance.

Remember that when you enter Kalifornia you are leaving Free America and entering a socialist country in which the Constitution has been declared null and void and common sense is a distant memory. Don't forget that's where Nancy Pelosi comes from. Telling the Pigs you have a gun will get you arrested if you are lucky enough not to get shot.

Don't even try it... unless you want to be spending some time as a satisfied customer of the California Department of Corrections. Leave the gun home... or like another poster stated, go to Nevada.

Unless you are one of the 45,000+ concealed carry permit holders in CA.

Heh

Not a LEO, but an atty.

One of two things would probably happen:

1) The officer would let you go with a warning after making you unload and lock your handgun in a container.

OR

2) The officer would arrest you and charge you with a) Carrying a concealed weapon b) Carrying a loaded weapon and possibly c) child endangerment. Your vehicle would probably be impounded and searched at the impound yard and you'd be posting bail to the tune of $thousands. Then you'd be flying you and your family home, then flying back out for your arraignment in CA court to which you'd plead no contest if you were smart. They'd probably give you a couple of years probation and a fine. If you chose to go to a full-blown trial you'd be found guilty by a jury and have a much higher fine plus atty fees.

I give you a 50/50 shot at either. ;)

You already know it's illegal, yet you think that maybe, since you are a nice fellow from out of state the cop or "Chippy" will let it slide??? Really????

Don't know about "chippies" but I've had LEOs cut me slack on things at times over the years.

My limited understand is that there are so many factors, not the least nowdays is that many LEOs routinely record both video and audio for all traffic stops. Such tapes are of course subject to review so if you state on tape that you have a loaded firearm then if he doesn't arrest you then he is in for a world of hurt. Don't know if it would be malfeasance ( IANAL ) or not.

Good luck in your decision.

PS You might want to check out California knife laws. I have heard that some parts have "interesting" knife laws, do not know for certain nor any details. NJ
