I have applied for a reserve deputy position in a county in which im not a resident but is close by and where i grew up in and want to serve the most, the sherrif is aquanted with my family and I . Does anyone know if by me living in a different county if it will affect anything at all? If it helps I live in arkansas.

Hello. I am a retired Texas police officer.
I suspect requirements can vary from state to state, but here we had several officers (full-time) who did not live within the city limits where they policed. We also had reserves that lived in other towns and cities. I know this is not much help, but it's all I had first-hand knowledge of. Best and good luck.

As Stephen said requiremetns will vary from state to state and even department to department.
Your best advise would be to ask the sheriff himself and that doesn't help contact your states department of public safety.

Greetings Guy's and Gal's: Here in Alabama,
one may reside in any city or county of their
choice; unless you happen to be the Chief Of
Police or the County Sheriff. I do have first
hand knowledge of at least 2 Chief's who don't have to abide by this rule. Maybe,
some exemptions do exist? :)

I deal with leos on a daily basis and the only thing I can think of is not being able to take your police car home. Many of the officers I know, that live outside the county, aren't allowed to drive it over the countyl line.
