I have just apllied for a reserve deputy position in a county in which i dont reside but is where i grew up and want to serve the most. It is only 10 minutes away. I know the sherrif from childhood and if it helps any I live in arkansas can anyone tell me if I can be a reserve deputy in a neighboring county. Thanks in advance for any help at all,Chris

Although not a LEO, one of my good friends is, he lives in an adjoining county, over an hour away and is a Reserve officer in my county, as Luck would have it he patrols my neighborhood. I guess it boils down to Departmental policy. But it is not unusual from what I am told.

...“ They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” --Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

W]hereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them; nor does it follow from this, that all promiscuously must go into actual service on every occasion. The mind that aims at a select militia, must be influenced by a truly anti-republican principle; and when we see many men disposed to practice upon it, whenever they can prevail, no wonder true republicans are for carefully guarding against it.
---Richard Henry Lee, The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788

It is most likely going to go by Dept. policy. They probably wouldn't have let you put in an app if you weren't eligible.

I'm still on the reserve roster for a SD that is about 12 hours away in another state!
