Question for all the X5 and X6 owners

Just wondering if you all have checked to see if there is any play between the slide and frame fitting. I was surprised to find a little with my X5. My Les Baer doesn't have any at all. Could this affect accuracy some?

Mine don't have any discernible play in the slide-to-frame fit, but I gather that a small amount of lateral play (about the axis of the bore) is actually very common with the X-Series guns. A majority of the ones I've handled or fired before have had a tiny bit. It would be nice if this weren't the case, of course, but these guns don't receive quite as much hand-fitting as top semi-custom 1911s do.

Regardless, I don't think a tiny bit of lateral play about the axis of the bore in the slide-to-frame fit is anything to worry about, especially since it's so common. (On the other hand, lateral play about a vertical axis -- horizontal play? -- would be worrisome.) Barrel-to-slide fit is typically vault-tight on the X-Series guns; aside from better fit in general, the X-Five/X-Six has a lateral shelf on the front barrel hood that provides super-tight vertical lockup, unlike a standard P-series Sig. The vertical slide-to-frame fit is also much tighter (as in there's usually no discernible movement at all) than with your average regular Sig. The fit in the latter two areas is what really makes the difference in accuracy.

So if you hold the slide with one hand and the frame with the other and try to move the slide lateral, you can't feel any movement at all? Mine is minimal, but it does move ever so slightly.

I'm sure there's movement to some minute degree, but it's not within a range that I can perceive. One of my X-Fives is still unfired, though, and the X-Five and X-Six that have been shot have only made one trip each to the range so far. Things might feel a bit different after the different parts have smashed into each other a few hundred times. :)

I was just trying to compare it to my baer (which I know is a totally different animal) but no matter how hard I twist it there is no movement whatsoever with it.

My X6 Supermatch has a tiny smidge. More important perhaps is the barrel to slide play, of which it has none.

I had (recently sold) a P226 X5 Competition in .40... fine shooting gun that I couldn't shoot well, but others could. Like the responses above, I found no discernible looseness or slop anywhere. It was a work of art.

But, as lifesizepotato noted above, barrel to slide fit is arguably a far more critical issue than slide to frame fit in the gun's performance (accuracy) -- and I suspect you'll find virtually none.

With aimed fire, as long as the barrel locks up/lines up consistently with the slide (and, in effect, with the sights) you should be good to go. With a Ransom Rest evaluation, where pure mechanical precision is assessed, and sights aren't used, slide to frame fit AND barrel to slide fit are both factors.

Measurable with a laser micrometer, yes.
Perceptible, not until you asked the question.
Noticable, no.
And VERY happy with it.
About as perfect a weapon as I've handled.
