I JUST PURCHASED A SMITH & WESSON MODEL 28
WITH A 6" BARREL AND TH,TT, AND TS. IT ALSO
HAS A PINNED BARREL WITH RECESSED CHAMBERS.
MY QUESTION IS: WHAT IS THE LAST DATE OF
MANUFACTURE FOR THE MODEL 28/ OR ANY N-FRAME
WITH THE PINNED BARREL AND RECESSED CHAMBERS?
ALL REPLIES ARE APPRECIATED !!!

P&R was dropped right around 1981. The L-frame series was never made with P&R and all others followed suit shortly thereafter.

Ala Dan, are you trying to track down the date of manufacture on your piece? If you gave us the serial number (replace the last three digits with X's) we could nail it down for sure. The M28-2 was the last pinned barrel/recessed heads M28. In 1982 the pin was deleted and the chambers were no longer recessed. That was designated the M28-3. That was dropped in 1986.

Greetings KFrame, Thanks for the updated
information. Actually, I bought a Model
28 S&W over the internet, and it hasn't
arrived at my dealer's just yet. I expect
it early next week; so I don't know the
serial number? The piece is suppose to
be 98%, being shipped as is with the
Triple T's (as I call them)and reportedly
has the pinned barrel and recessed chambers.
I know I have not seen a Model 28 in years.
Going to use this piece for postal pistol
match competition. Will let the group know
how she shoot's !!!
