Question for/about local gun stores hours
There are always a lot if threads about the merits of online buying vs local buying and I was wondering if anyone was in the same boat as me.

I work M-F and every other Saturday. I leave my house at 8:45am and get home around 6:45 pm. The only time I can even get inside my local store is (usually) every other Saturday, and most Saturdays are booked with family

The last few guns I have bought have been either at a big box store (Sportsman's Warehouse open till 9pm and on Sunday) or online (the FFL I ship to works from home). I would like to give locals owners a shot at my business but honestly Sportsman's Warehouse and online have better prices most of the time. Add to it the fact that to even see what they have or can do, I only have 2 Saturdays and have to take away from family time.

I was wondering how many people find it almost too hard to make it to a local shop. I know a lot of people have online items shipped to the local stores but I assume a lot of people have them shipped to home FFL. I also know a lot of Big Box Stores have a reputation of high prices, but honestly Sportsman's Warehouse is more than competitive.

I also had a suggestion for shop owners. I know most have families and need time off too and I don't expect them to stay open 24/7, but if my local stores had their inventory online and could hold or put on layaway items with a down payment with my cc/debit card I think it would really open up a lot opportunities.

Vote with your dollar, I always find a better price other than the local gun shops. I still from time to time buy from my local, because I try to support them but not to the point of total inconvienence. I bet if you expressed your problem to the shop he would do whatever he could to get your business. Good luck.

There are three gun shops in my area to choose from (wal-mart doesn't count).

One keeps regular business hours and is has a great selection and high prices. It seems to be more of a old man coffee club than a gun store. Only open half a day Saturday and closed Sunday.

Another is a bait shop that has a good reloading section and a small long gun rack and a pistol cabinet. They are family owned and very competitive on prices and their hours are great. They are open 7 to 7 and closed on Monday IIRC.

The last is the local chain outdoors/gun/pawnshop. There are four of these stores between three counties. Depending on the store, section and service vary from so-so to great. Selection and service don't go hand in hand either. These stores are also closed Mondays.

I also have a friend with a home FFL. He gets all of my business for ordering things but he keeps no real inventory.

I usually deal with two (somewhat) local gun shops. Both are open Saturdays. One is 5 minutes away so getting there on a Saturday is never an issue -- it's a regular stop on my Saturday "patrol" route. The other is 45 minutes away ... but he is also open until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Never a problem.

Plus I can e-mail the proprietors of both shops, tell them what I'm looking for, and they'll quote me a price without my having to drive there at all.

Its tough sometimes to get to the lgs here for me also. The shops here are usually small and saturdays its always very crowded with people just looking/talking and not much buying anything.Had to go during lunch (1hr) once to fill out an ffl form. I go to the shop here because they carry things the big chain stores (academy) do not and the price is only alittle higher.
