Question after reading thread regarding Accidental Discharge

Just completed reading the thread "Have you ever had an accidental discharge". As a new shooter, that is a great thread. It should be required reading.

In one post, the poster indicated that he had had a cookoff. Then other people started saying that it was a cookoff, not a hangfire.

What is a cookoff and what is a hangfire?

Unless you have a full-auto, closed-bolt gun, you will likely never see a cook-off. Hang-fires are very rare as well.

unless you are shooting 8 mm lebel on MG strips

Oh man, too cool! I got to shoot one original 8 mm Lebel round. I had loaded all my own from data I extrapolated from various sources. I think it was from WWI. It did indeed go click, wait for it, wait for it, bang!

I've been shooting on aregular basis since 1973, never experienced either. Squibs, yes, from poorly loaded reloads (my fault)
