Question about WIN 9mm ammo....

I got a couple boxes of Winchester white box Q4172 9mm 115gr ball ammo from Wal-Mart the other day. Was headstamped like a military case (WCC 00 NATO cross). Crimped primer. I later bought more (same box, Q number, etc.) that had the commercial headstamp and commercial primer. What gives???? Is there a difference in the load? My UZI loved the MIL-style stuff. Will the other rounds perform as well?

I'm not sure if there is a difference, but your UZI will love the other stuff too. Winchester has been the most reliable ammo in any 9mm I've used.

Sounds like Winchester overran a little in packaging on military ammo during a changeover to commercial ammo on the fly in production. I can't recall if milspec ammo is a little hotter than commercial today. I know they were for some calibers in the past. Hopefully, other posters will know.

Yep. Milspec is 124 gr. 9mm and it's hotter than usual. I still have a few boxes of WIN overrun ammo sitting around in the safe somewhere.

I think the 115 gr. is just overrun brass, not a complete round. IOW, the 115s are not milspec.

I have bought so much Winchester 9mm at Wal-mart that when I went in yesterday to buy a DVD, the guy at the gun counter opened the case and asked how many boxes I wanted this time. He almost seemed hurt that I wasn't buying any.;)
