Question about the Vltor setups for M1As

Question here,

I, like many others I suspect, dream of someday getting an M1A. In fact I am dreaming of two of them, as I have detailed in the past... I figure I gotta get me one of the loaded type ones for use as an actual rifle, dedicated marksman rifle. And I'll be needing a shorter one, probably a Socom or a Scout , for use as a CQB/fighting rifle. LOL. oh yeah plenty of accessories and ammo,m naturally!

Anyway, I was on Vltor's website last nite, just fooling around looking at stuff, their stocks (I'm a Magpul guy myself) and I saw they have some stuff for M1A's... I don't know if i should call them stocks , or rails, or what, so I am using the term "Setups".

Now these things (And let me be frank: I do NOT have the money for the Vltor piece let alone the actual M1A, so this is just an informational question not a prelude to buying tomorrow) are they like full, drop in "stocks?" i.e, do you remove th stock you have and drop in the action/barrel into these, or am I looking at them wrong? Because it does look good, like having a full pistol grip, full AR style stock, and in some cases top or bottom or extra rails up front for accessories/optics/bipod/grip/etc.

Now I am rereading the info on the M1S, and it says "now, to ACCOMPANY the cluster rail .... " so wait, you need to have the SOCOM II to use this, and have the cluster rail? I thought ti was supplying you with rails., I didnt notice that last nite... and the RE-EBR, that is if you ALREADY HAVE The Sage , it just gives you this Vltor stock? (How much is a sage, then?)

anyway, anyone know about therse Vltor deals ? They worth it?

Oh yeah, the CASV-14, this is what now, only a front end cluster rail, or is this the whole shebang, the stock, the buttrstock, and front end rail? Cause I am confused ,to do it right it looks like you are needing to buy a $2000 M1A, a $550 M1S "Stock" from Vltor and then a $350 "rail" to add onto it? Sheesh!

Wait for the new Blackfeather RS [m14.ca] to come out.

I have been using the SAGE EBR since 2004 and love them, but I am excited about the new Blackfeather.

Totally agree!! Here's a LOOK from the guy developing it.

tak, perhaps while waiting to fund your m1a project you could grab a garand.
.... i have not owned a custom m1a before but have owned three sprinfiield arm incorporated guns. each one had its idiosyncrasies. one was a standard, one a loaded and one national match. all are gone due to financial swings in life but the garand is still home....fwiw. bobn

I've had a Vltor modstock on my M1A Scout for a close to 5 years.

The pistol grip makes it easier to handle. And the buttstock is adjustable for both length and height. I did not get the optional heat shield on top since I am using a normal scope instead of a scout style. I just duracoated an old heatshield I had.
There is no forward sling attachment, so I added a short picatinny rail with a sling point, this also allows me to mount a Harris bipod.

Yes, it's a simple drop in affair. In fact they are built using GI fiberglass stocks with the rear portion added

I always wanted a Garand, only have seen a few in Jersey and they're always top dollar... and I also don't have a lot of interest in .30-06... I mean I would get it for the Garand of course, it's the M1 Garand,.. but if I'm going to add a caliber, I'd rather add .308 and have an M1A and possibly one other weapon that shoots .308.

I'm not at ALL saying .308 is better not in the least I don't want to start a war, just can't afford to have so many calibers and believe in having ammo for what you have so when I add a weapon of a caliber i believe in getting a decent supply of ammo for it, especially with the times the way they are.... If I had any money lying around which I don't, I'd be buying a ton of ammo. Honestly I could easily spend $1,000 just on 5.56 , what with the $350-ish deal of M855, another $300-ish on regular 55 grain M193 ,and then some stock of real good ammos, a load of Hornady TAP, maybe some Superperformance or Varmint ammo, and some of that mk 292 77 grain stuff ... easy.

ANYWAY i digress into SHTF stocking up. That M1A above lookS AWESOME , just what I want. I am very jealous. If only I had 10 grand to spend on some guns and ammo :)

I was deciding over getting a socom vs scout vs national match. For a "combat" setup get the scout - its right in the middle of the two and youll already have the choice of getting it in synthetic and having a rail. After getting a good feel for it you may just want to add a few rails and call it a day - those stocks get pricey. And whatever you do dont get that ugly bullpup troy kit....

those stocks get pricey

A think I paid around $425 for my Vltor. Yes it was pretty spendy, but the finished rifle made it all worth while.
I've added a Blue Force 2-point sling since that pic was taken. I also would like to upgrade from the SA scope mount at some point.
