Question about the recoil spring and guide rod for the Beretta 92 series.

I noticed by watching several field stripping videos on the net, that some guys apply paint to the end of the spring that the guide rod generally goes into.

This I noticed this with some 1911 and Sig videos. Seems like on some pistols the spring maybe of different dimensions were the guide rod goes in.

Was wondering if this was the case with the Beretta 92 pistol? If there was a specific end of the spring the guide rod is supposed to go into. I have had the thing apart so many times I wouldn't know which end of the spring the guide rod was in from the factory. LOL!

In some pistols (including the original 1911's) the rear coil of the spring is a smaller diameter where it fits over the guide rod or barrel. The reason is to keep the spring from taking off when the pistol is disassembled. If the spring is reversed, the small end might interfere with functioning.

spring

The recoil spring on my PPKS is smaller on one end and if I reverse it it jams the pistol. Once I reversed the spring it didn't jam so I am very careful in cleaning it that I replace the spring correctly.
